Răducu was still dozing in the hammock suspended between two sentences. Only a ray of sunshine made him squint and watch it project on the classroom wall and then flourish in Irinuca's hair. He inhaled in amazement and sent his breath across the garden, raising his eyebrows in the shape of a castle. He dug a moat full of water around its wall and crafted a bridge of glances for an entrance. At the end of the class, he had already woven a basket full of pink butterflies from his stomach and gave it to Irinuca, who was waiting for him in the castle, nibbling on the end of a pencil.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
