He could taste blood in his mouth, a dull ache in the back of his head and dizziness. Probably from the baseball bat he'd taken to the head a few minutes before he was due to walk on stage for his graduation. The crushing blow was cushioned by that rainbow-brimmed hat. You gipsy, I told you I'd kill you if you went on stage. But I'm a graduate as well. Listen to him, graduate. Shut the fuck up, you dark-skinned piece of shit. Yo, my school doesn't allow gipsies. Come on, fuck off home. Kick his ass one more time for being a faggot too.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
