I'll tear down your damn walls if I hear another whisper. He was looking down the seemingly reverberating hallway; he quickly got out of bed, muttering, I'll knock on the walls with a baseball bat. The light from the monitor was flickering in the living room. I turned that off, right? he asked confused, with the walls as his witnesses. Her smile was on the screen, a picture as old as time. Their time. He jolted, turned off the computer and went back to his bedroom, resigned. No point in getting mad anymore. He drifted off to sleep, keeping an ear on the echo of a laugh ingrained in his soul.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
