He is a notorious drunk, he sits in a chair in the desert of my heart all day and drinks my mind. Tormented, he saves my death from a meeting with me on the edge of a string tied to the beam, always commenting on my clumsy steps. At the edge of the bitter glass, he sees the emptiness of my loneliness and plunges like a thirsty man into the heart of every problem and drowns my ships. Stumbling, he dances his way to me. When we see eachother we drink until we meet under the table. It's a mess.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
