They were flowing in harmony. Always. He was striving to catch the stream of thoughts, to put them together in a ear, but they were slipping through his fingers, becoming fish. He had no idea how many times he had been sent here. He didn't keep the count. They had buried him about three times, in shroud, three times they had burned him at the stake, another three times they had built him a house out of solid wood, so that the jackals could not feast on his body. He did not remember anything else. He took a deep breath and whispered to himself: you CAN do it. This time you will find The Way. The Truth. The Life.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
