At first there was silence. We weren't saying anything to each other, we knew one another, we knew what we wanted from each other. We multiplied. I didnțt know who was from where anymore, we had to recognize each other somehow, we started talking. I invented the word. Who are you?. They started writing to get to know each other. But something rather curious happened. Because of so many books, nobody knew anything. They had the word but they didn't also discover the truth. They sought the truth in silence, but as even a fool is considered wise when he is silent, the noise remains.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
