I put the stuffed peppers in the oven and the homemade chocolate in the fridge. The beef stew was boiling on the stove. At the same time I was doing my nails, hitting the old hay, sorry, rubbing the tub, the bathroom sink and the mirrors. The whole house was smelling like a diligent housewife. Then you showed up. Hungry. Tireless. Sweaty. You could see the hunger in your eyes. You took me in your arms and got yourself satiated. The beef stew ran out of water, the stuffed peppers burned in the oven, but you didn't go hungry. On the contrary. The kitchen was on fire and so were we.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
