We had retreated to the edge of the forest because August had almost left us without oxygen. I had the Barry White CD ready and a bag of Sugus. I had no money for a hotel and champagne so I improvised. A well prepared kiss, I pushed the back of her chair and put two candies in her mouth while telling her I love her. I thought she had tears in her eyes because of the song, but she had choked on the Sugus candies. I performed such a rough Heimlich move that her slipper flew on the board. Barry was silent. She was also silent. But the Parrot 2 system had recorded everything.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
