You still marrying that boy? I am, but he won't propose, grannie. Does he not like something about you? He does, he likes how I look, how I am with him and his folks, he likes my cooking, everything. Then where's the problem? He has a problem. He has this furuncle, a boil.... you know where and it hurts when...you know... It's like I foresaw this, I brought some black mullein. Look, you wash it, peel it, leave it to boil and you apply it lukewarm on the you know... spot. And it'll heal. But you need to fondle it a bit. If he doesn't propose, call me. It worked with your grandpa.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
