It had been god-awful since he had started painting Maiden in the grass. The girl freshly out of the river, her flowy hair calling to you, her ripe pink bosom wet with the dew of desire, those he would always get right. The grass though, never. He'd shredded tens of sketches. He would wander in the park raving about the dying white of innocence fused into the green of new beginnings. They found him licking the moss on a tree, so they put him in a mental institution. They served him a leek stew. He face-planted on the plate: this is the shade of giving into passion. The he shouted: but why does it reek of guilt?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
