He watched himself in the blue of his eye and realized he was terribly hindered by the fact that he only had one, it would have been so much easier with two. He would grab the lie by its short feet and would pluck it out root and all. He asked himself again, looking for a spark of genius: "where did you hide it?" The lie left the empty eye and lifted imperceptibly the corner of its mouth. The eye looked at his chest, slit his skin, spread his ribs and showed him: look, there it is. Confused, he recognized her: it was always here. A tear fell from his eye.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
