Youth without old age and life without death. That's what she wants. Even though she always says what a hard and ugly life she has. She accuses me and asks me to do something. She thinks it's my business to handle it. And so I did, but I did not find a solution, just as I didn't find a solution to her happiness, which was my business as well. I've got an idea. If she wants, I'll give her mine. Maybe, upon receiving one more youth and one more life, she would feel joy, she would finally see me and would find, at least a minute, in which she could be that which it's written on my birth certificate, she could be my mother.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
