Father Holy Water pulled 50 lei out of his wallet and handed them over to Mirabelle. Give me fifty more since ya wanted it higher too, said the gipsy. That's enough, answered his Holiness. No matter, God sees all, she retorted angrily. I'll go to your wife to tell her fortune in her coffee cup. I'll tell her about the mark under your bellybutton. Shut the hell up, you dimwit, he snapped. He stood up and glanced at the picture on the chest. Who's this? All four of them are my brothers, she answered. Two of them are in jail and the other two are in France. What did they do? They cut up a priest with a butcher's hook.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
