She just happened to be there; it was a bizarre coincidence that would haunt her long after. It was a warm evening. She had gone out to see the moon and her footsteps had taken her unwillingly to that isolated bench. She found him, elbow leaning on the opposite side of the bench, and they remained silent for two moments as the cigarette smoke crept naughtily between them. How are you, Rose? Time stood still. The moon, too full of itself, flared into a thousand fireflies. I've been waiting for you, Wolfie. A jar of lit up embers peered at her, just like at the beginning of their love story.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
