I stare at the road, through the windshield. I can barely keep my eyes open. The forest rolls to either side of the car, I see the parking lot, the bar with colored bulbs strung across the entrance. It feels warm, all right. Inside, there are truckers drinking huge pints of beer and a dancer moving sensuously. I shout to them: this is dusk to dawn, you'll all die, she's a vampire. They laugh in my face and I runaway before the carnage begins. I turn on the engine and in the background I can hear the screams of the poor fools, asblood is spurting from the mouth of the undead.

Nadina Vișan / Edited by Silvia Petrescu, coordinator of the translations)Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days.
