The grandfather is sitting on the ditch, traditional hat on one eyebrow and a bottle of palinka next to him. My darling girl, in this life everything is black or white, do you understand? If it's not good, it's bad. What is not beautiful is ugly. If it's not night, it's clearly day. If you're not hungry, it means you're full. If you don't have money, you're poor. If you don't have love, you're damn lonely. There is only one situation, my darling girl, when another colour appears in this big world. It is when I get a little drunk, like now. What colour is that, grandpa? It is the Rainbow.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
