I had been born a giant. I even kept the mountain in the shadow. My mother didn't bother to feed me anymore, so I did her a good turn: I hit the road and left. I loved walking through the rocks and the pebbles, I didn't have the heart to step on green grass. I'd leave tracks where the shooting stars would take their night time rest. My head was always bumping against the blue sky and the clouds were unmistakably pulling my hat off. But I didn't like to lie on the ground and gasp for air. I was breathing up there. I still haven't found the end of the world. I only know it's white.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
