He asked for my blank History notebook to study for the Olympiad. He, the boy I was secretly crushing on, approached me and muddled my head with his words more than his presence. I was puzzled, whyever did he want my notebook? I didn't take History notes, he wouldn't have anything to study. He insisted. He returned it a few days later. Two years later, when I was sorting out my schoolbooks, a poem fell out of the blank notebook. A love poem. Not my handwriting. It was the only subject I didn't get an A in. And I was at the top of my class, you know.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
