I circled around the house searching for an entrance, a door, a window, something that would show me inside. In my dream, the angels had told me that this was the house where I was born, but I didn't recognise anything from its surroundings. I started knocking on the ivied walls, hoping to discover some sort of secret Narnia, when my phone rang. I answered the call, but only heard the silence of my surroundings in response. Who's there? Not even an echo. I felt my soul leaving my body and being swallowed by that strange house, and smelled the scent of Chanel No. 5. Is this a sign?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
