We always used to fight for toys. Our parents didn't have enough money to buy a toy for each of us, so they had to watch them fighting, pushing and cursing each other over possession of toys. When it came to the electric car, I came up with a proposal. Hide and seek. Whoever finds it first, gets it. I triumphed because I was smart. I had put paint on the sole of my brother's slipper. I laughed like a squirrel who inhaled helium at the sight of the footprints around the house. It's not wight, It's not wight, my brother used to sob. I just couldn't stop laughing. Father slapped hard.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
