They both had blue eyes and went to kindergarten together. He used to pull her pigtails, stick gum in her hair, and then laugh. We'll see who gets the last laugh, she said. He laughed. But they grew up, she was the prettiest and most naïve, and he was the ladies' man in town. He made fun of all of them but promised her everything, the moon in the sky and 2,5 lei. They got married and had children. Then he started making fun of all women, leaving her forgotten in the kitchen. On his deathbed, he looked into the dark eyes of his children surprised and laughed one last time.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
