Aki and Ika, the Zoo's parrots, underwent an exchange experience program: while their cage was enlarged, they stayed with the canaries, next to the sheep pen. There aren't any sheep anymore, but two very barking dogs, two beasts, remain. Aki and Ika learned to bark, howl and yelp, a great fun for them. They even changed their names, Aki is Boss, Ika is Leather. They'd get tattoos too, only they don't want to pluck. Now they amuse themselves by barking fiercely at anyone who passes by their cage and wait to visit the finches, who sit next to the lions.

Flopped as if asleep, not a single move, in an icy atmosphere, the inert body exuded around it essences of fruit with the freshness of cloves and cinnamon in the company of accords of mahogany and musk. The unusual accent of pine wood formed the strong base of the spicy-sweet composition of the Hugo fragrance surrounding the well-defined muscles of the corpse. The scalpel sliced through the epithelial sheath to reveal traces of a malignant neoplasm devouring this perfect package from within.

I've loved long haired men in leather since my mother birthed me. There was something about them. Not just anywho, only the brazen ones. Leaders. In high school I'd joined a group of creative kids who loved mountain adventures and rock concerts. I did not part withthe boots, the black nails, the zest for life and the heavy metal in my helmet. One day, I came across the Devil. Well, across the coolest guy of my teenage life. Blond hair, blue eyes, black overcoat. The girls were falling head over hills for him. And my friendship with Bia, my schoolmate also fell out. I did keep him.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2023, the group has 11,540 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
