I hired her for cleaning up, but I wasn't expecting such a nice girl, with such vitality. She started to work immediately, walking her feather broom in every corner of my heart, whisking the web that had formed over the years, washing all the dirt that had been accumulating inside my soul with her joy. Her seductive eyes and most importantly, the blonde jokes, she herself being an authentic blonde, freshened every corner of my mind. My house smelled of refreshing mint. The next day she was gone with all of my expensive wristwatches.

When James showed up to the trailer's door, Eileen greeted him with a gun. One more step and consider yourself a dead man, she told him angrily, spitting like a man. Show me. She fired the gun. The bullet flew extremely close. You're nuts. The little girl hidden behind the curtain witnessed the entire scene raddled. It was the first and the last time when Jessie saw her father. She asked about him once, but her mother got so angry that she feared to bring up the subject ever again. Later on, she grew up feeling on her own skin what a one night stand was.

Now what am I going to do, where should I find you? It lasted for a few hours. You knew me from the neighbourhood, and I knew you from an outdoor vernissage concert, where you were holding the pianist's score. I found out you wanted a magazine, I was the one who had it, so I bravely called you. It was your brother. But you gladly came to the date I proposed. With a red rose: I've been in love with you for 5 years, but tomorrow I'm going to work in Greece with my father. We walked on the autumn streets. I didn't get the chance to tell you I Love you back. Because the car came to pick you up.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2023, the group has 12,210 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
