Where did you meet her? my grandpa asked curiously and eager for conversation. On Tinder, the young man answered unenthusiastically. The old man's lips cramped into a corner, and his eyebrows furrowed. He quickly recovered and smirked cunningly. I met her there too. We laid down a sheet and got to know each other well. Where were we supposed to go, as both her parents and her brothers were sleeping, and it was freezing cold outside. But she enjoyed me meeting her. It was the young man's turn to smirk. Where did you say you met her? On a sheet, on tindă[1].
[1] Tindă - small room located at the entrance of peasant houses. It is a play on the words Tinder and tindă.

I'm tired of explaining to Marcel that he needs a real woman. The girls at the mall swipe past him in a flash, and he goes from one fling to another, sometimes happy, sometimes disappointed. I don't blame them; we were like that at 20. We couldn't see the big picture; we thought we ruled the world. But there comes a time when your world shrinks to a two-bedroom apartment. Someone has to smooth out your wrinkles with a kind word. He always asks me with a laugh, where the heck does so much wisdom fit in a sales consultant.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2024, the group has 12,860 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
