I don't watch movies anymore; I've had my fill for the simple reason that within the first few minutes, I know how it will end. The script that could keep me gaping in awe hasn't been invented yet, so they're all the same to me, and the scene where He brings a blanket and drapes it over Her shoulders while police car lights flicker, pushed me over the edge. When I started guessing even the color of the soft, fluffy blanket she clutches to her chest, and he, I don't know where he pulls it from every time, I was always quitting.

The buttons on your shirt weren't really buttons, and the bulb in the lamp wasn't really a bulb. Of course, you didn't know, or you would have dressed differently for the park and wouldn't have come into our bedroom with what you picked from the outdoors. Tiny crocuses and eager lady's bedstraw ready to picked from the mystical world you persuasively presented. They were auditioning for the remake of a basic instinct of your unrelialistic desires. I smile; the microfilm has a mundane script, you're predictable, but you forgot how much I also enjoy carving in ice.

An extra-terrestrial lies with its head on the bar counter, murmuring in its own language a strategy for extracting from the weekend. The grand prize is the only chance to make it back home. Here on Earth, the job doesn't help. The employer promised him the world at the interview, but on the spot, things look completely different. After a month of washing dishes, he's left with just enough money for a sour cherry brandy. He keeps wondering how Earthlings can win the battle for survival when it's clear from above that they weren't endowed with his instincts.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2024, the group has 12,860 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
