Come see it. What? The moon. Why? It's full. With what? It's round, bright. And? It's beautiful. So? Dude, why won't you come? Because I don't want to. How come? I just don't. Dude, are you hiding something from me? The hell I am, hide what? I don't know, why don't you want to come, have you got any issues? What kind of issues? You know... I don't know, what kind of issues? The kind that appear when there's a full moon. You grow hair, you become a werewolf. I'm going to my mom's, you know. Go on, then. So that's how it is, you goddamn werewolf, you and all your lycanthropic offspring. By the way, how long does the morphing last?

He loved looking at her, admiring her and gazing at her. As he blinked, he was already starting to miss her. He chased the fog, the wind, the rain and all the clouds from the sky. He cleared the sky to see better. When the sun went down, he began to collect star by star. He put them out there in his bedroom to shine. He touched them, and they fell. They were falling stars. There was only the moon, alone, to shine. He took it out of the sky. To take it to the bedroom, to her. And it got dark. Pitch black. There was still so much time before morning. An eternity.

He lounges on the roof of his wheelhouse and watches her. It's all his. Now it's completely lit up by the sun, just like the night he decided he wanted to roam the world freely. He vividly remembers how his child's voice had been swallowed up by a new, frightening voice. His parents sat across the table from each other, like two long-emptied coffee cups. He snuggled into the sheets and knew. He had saved penny by penny in a jar that had once been jam and he was now free. He smiles. And nothing else matters.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2024, the group has 13,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
