He doesn't remember when it started. There came an earthquake that pressed the walls over him. It passed. Then came another, and another, more and more frequent, accompanied by a roar. He can only wait for it to pass. He has long since run out of room to move, but now he suffocates. The warm water around him disappears, hush, gone it is. He sees a light. The walls push him that way, trap his head, then his shoulders in a tunnel. He's sure the end of the world is coming, he just wants it to end already. And it gets light and cold, the air hurts and he screams for the first time.

I fell asleep with my right cheek on the prominence above her pubis. More of a sweet nausea than sleep. More salty than sweet. From there I can find her clitoris with my tongue and closed eyes. And if I can, she wants it. Which is why now I rest my lips close to hers and whisper questions about the end and creation of the world. When I hear the mysteries, I descend the mountain of the goddess with the skill of a mountaineer and penetrate the gates to see if heaven awaits me beyond. Between her thighs I see the light.

Once there was a boy who never knew his mother. The father was always bringing him light, but the child grew sadder and sadder. He rarely smiled beneath his furrowed forehead. What's the matter, child? Daddy, where's the end of the world? They told me that's where Mommy is and I'll never get there. The beginning and the end of the world is in your heart. So is mom. That's why never forget to come back to yourself. That night, a boy with wings soared into the sky and from there he dove deep into the soul. The next day, a huge smile was bathing the pillow in his arms.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2024, the group has 13,200 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
