I forcibly pulled the zipper and I got out victorious. My brain, poor thing, was desperately translating to me every weight, be it a plant, a cloud, a thorn, be it real or not. My deaf feet, enslaved, we're moving on, and time started to fall, after every step, remaining less and less, breathing more and more irregular. Shadows from above we're playing on my body, drawing shapes, coloring me sometimes in white, sometimes in black. When my arms we're snatched, I froze because of the pain and then I fell into the void. Two wings have opened and I started to float.

There was only one woman, since he was very young. They married, had wonderful children together and then the times forced them to divorce. He went somewhere far away to earn money while she reinvented herself. They both made it and they remained close friends, proud of their children's achievements. When the devil stuck his tail, he fell in love of a cousin and blinded began to live in sin. The Lord has seen everything and didn't accept it. The brother watched him, his former wife buried him, and the cousin didn't see anything of the gold dreamt in lie and sin.

A pitch-dark night. Behind Anna's house, through the first plough's corn flour Vica, wraped in her mother's kerchief with tassels, stretches on the peaks to see Nicu through the tiny window. She lately began suspecting him of running after Ana and keeping her around just as a silly girl. This is the night of the truth, she reinforces herself sitting on a rock so that she can see better, when a soft touch on her thighs snatches a shout out of her and she rolls over Lia, the ex, who came too to be on the watch, who cries bitterly, oh no, you broke my ribs, you stupid cow.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2024, the group has 13,200 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
