Our star will have no name, the boy explained, but the sheep protested: but it already has a name. The boy pressed his finger against the sheep's lips and went on: every name creates a connection between a sensory image and a real object. For instance, take this flower, before I called it a flower, it was a unique image, but now it has become an ordinary object. On our star, we won't call the flower flower, the lake lake, or the sky sky, so we could keep their purity. The sheep scratched its neck: but then this world will be one. Shhh.

Even my fellow astronomers would call him a lunatic for staring at the sky all night long. But they were wrong. He didn't care about Selena. All his otherworldly attention was concentrated on a small star, whose outline could hardly be se seen even on clear nights. A cold fire among thousands of other cold fires. You're crazy, there are so many stars in the sky, they told him when they found out about the madman's madness. Why are you wasting your time? He just smiled. Just like he did at every other question that were unworthy of an answer.
Carmen Tot
Man, I don't want my bones to be left on these mountains without seeing my child, do you understand? Don't think about it, Tom, I wouldn't like that either. I want the gold. As far as your child is concerned, he hasn't been born yet, he is a dot in the sky. John laughed and kicked his boot in the firewood, causing sparks to be thrown all over. Because it is said that your wife's pregnant with my child. Tom got angry, but it all went quiet. A star twinkled for no one. You didn't want to die, but you did, dog. And John pulled the map from his vest pocket, spitting in disgust.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2024, the group has 13,230 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
