The one who can no longer see is the true lover of light. The only one who, behind closed eyes, carries a sky. There are stars that no one else has seen. The memory of light is a therapeutic form of solitude. Maybe some of us are the children of a small, blind god who managed things as well as he could, from the memory of a paradise he had once seen in his childhood. Perhaps we are nothing but rainbows in the dark, going for the light with our eyes closed. Children put out stars with snowballs.

He was a small star during his high school years. Everybody knew and appreciated him. He sang beautifully and always gathered many friends around him, and his thoughts were directed towards a music career. But not before long, the world changed and he embraced a career that gave him many stars on his shoulders, completely forgetting about the burning passion of his teenage years. When a former high school colleague asked him: do you still sing?, he, a retired man, realized he had to do something. He tries, but the contest "The Star Without a Name" no longer exists.

One day, on the rocky ridge of Mount Zmij, Ewa and Alojzy were arguing over a golden speck of dust carried by the wind. Ewa claimed it was stardust, but Alojzy insisted it was just a grain of sand. Next to them, Witek, the great dreamer, danced on the edge of an imaginary ship, shouting that he had discovered a nameless star. That star doesn't exist, yelled Alojzy. That's exactly why it doesn't have a name, replied Ewa in anger. Eventually, the unseen star fell into the invisible ocean, and all three of them continued their pointless argument.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2024, the group has 13,230 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
