Under the motto ROMANIA 2004: CULTURAL IDENTITIES IN DIALOGUE, the University of Bucharest organizes in 2004 at Sinaia, the 45th Session of the Summer Courses and Symposia on the Romanian People’s Language, Literature, History and Art, which is open to all specialists in Romanian and Romance languages, to all those who appreciate the Romanian language and spirituality.

THE PROGRAMME OF THE SUMMER COURSES

The summer school of the University of Bucharest includes intensive Romanian language classes (comprising three levels of proficiency: for beginners, intermediate and advanced students) meant to help students to acquire basic spoken and written Romanian or improve and keep up their previous knowledge of the language. There will be lectures in the History of the Romanian literature, linguistics, in ethnography, anthropology, philosophy, history, politology, sociology and Romanian civilization. Specialized topics selected from a wider range will be suggested to the participants in special seminars held by professors of high repute of the Universityof Bucharest.

At the end of the courses, participants will be awarded a participation Diploma.

During their stay at Sinaia (one of the oldest and most famous mountain resorts of the country), the students may enjoy the picturesque region of the Bucegi Mountains and its surroundings. The cultural programme will include meetings with writers and remarkable representatives of the Romanian art as well as study excursions. For the free time, Sinaia offers a large range of recreational possibilities: visits to monasteries and the site of the 19th century Peleş Castle.

CONDITIONS OF REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION

The summer courses of the University of Bucharestare open to students, candidates for a doctor’s degree, research professors in philology as well as to any other person who is interested in the study of the Romanian language, literature and civilization.

The participation fee is 980 USD or 950 € including tuition, textbooks, accommodation in a 3* hotel (double rooms), 3 meals/day at the hotel restaurant and the cultural programme, including also 3 study excursions.

The fee is to be paid on arrival, at the Secretariat of the Summer Courses.
DRAFT PROGRAMME

Saturday, July 24 – arrival in Sinaia, (Hotel INTERNATIONAL)
Sunday, July 25 – opening of the courses
Monday, August 16 – closing of the courses
Tuesday, August 17 – departure from Sinaia to Bucharest
Wednesday, August 18 – departure

In view of this programme the application forms have to be sent by July 10, 2004, at latest.

USEFUL INFORMATION


The participants from the countries mentioned below need no entry visa: the EU countries, Canada, Croatia, Island, Yugoslavia, Japan, Lichtenstein, Switzerlandand the USA.

Information about transit visas should be requested from the Romanian embassy in your country.
