First day. I rushed to the window. They hadn't grown. From the cloud across the way, Costică waved at me. The village drunkard. He had ended up in Heaven as well? Domnica sent me kisses from her cloud, two smiles away. Maybe the lawyer she got laid with had put in a good word for her. Otherwise, considering her past, I couldn't seem to understand how she had gotten in Heaven. I didn't get a chance to say another word when a cherub with a devilish tail came to fold the clouds. To the Purgatory, please, he said drily and pointed to the winding labyrinth stretching over two ridges.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2021, the group has 5.600 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
