I know it's up to me to make a change. I can choose what to eat and drink, what to dress and put on my feet, I can either open the umbrella or dance in the rain. Still, I find it hard to cross the threshold. But today I said no to pain. I got out of a relationship that trapped me for years. On the first night I slept in a deserted house. I drank a glass of wine in my honour. Flowers began to fly and butterflies to spring up from the flaked off walls. I wouldn't have guessed that hell was just two blocks away from heaven.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In April 2021, the group has 5.600 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
