Mommy is cruel. You can see the evil in her eyes and she is always looking for an excuse to pump me full of beatings. She keeps telling me that instead of making me, it would have been better if she, pardon the expression, took a crap by the fence. For 32 years she keeps telling me. Today I've made up my mind. I want to be a man, I want to tell her to stop hitting me. My cousin told me to go to Paulina. Apparently, she brought out the manliness in a lot of boys. I ring the doorbell and out comes a mammoth of a woman. Speechless, I Cross myself and enter. I am too embarrassed to say what she did to me, just know that everything hurts. I return a man. I go to mommy to smooch her little hands.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2021, the group has 6.400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
