In our tribe, at the age of 10 we are sent to live in the forest for a week with only a knife, a bow and 10 arrows. Not all of my friends came back. Now it's my turn. It's the first day and I must hunt something because I'm hungry. I wasted my first 4 arrows aiming for a deer. Then I took aim at some birds. I only have 2 arrows left and night is falling. Without warning, a frightening scream can be heard: hey kid stop shootin' arrows at the animals or I'm gonna' tell on your pa when he's gonna' come get you.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In May 2021, the group has 6.400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, setting their texts within the limit of 500 symbols (in Romanian language, so in English the limit might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise with an almost daily changed topic. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
