I want to wake up from this nightmare. I begin searching for her through the wreckage. People are trying to save themselves by climbing a stairway to the sky. I can't climb without her. I keep searching for my love, screaming out my pain and suffering on the dust that settled upon the world. Suddenly I see her. I run towards her and hold her into my arms. I lay on a boulder. I open up the bag and with my eyes closed, I begin to crack up coffee beans between my teeth. I can feel its flavor in my nostrils. On my lips I feel a kiss. Love, wake up. The coffee is ready.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
