After a weekend of just watching that new channel of home improvements and renovations, Mateias had an idea. The plan had been in his head since Sunday, but he couldn't work on the Lord's Day. So he waited in Christianity until Monday, when he took the drill and began to tear down the wall facing the garage. Or so he calculated, for he found himself in the kitchen at Mrs Isopescu's. With curlers in her hair, eyes bulging and clutching her bag of Lavazza, the Mrs asked him calmly, like a good mother. Mateias, but haven't you had your coffee?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2021, the group has 7.275 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
