I have stolen innocent souls and imprinted them on my fragile memory. I have stolen great smiles and collected them in my Happiness box so that I may use them during dark times. I have built dreams and memories in Smena boxes and printed them out for the child in me. I have broken them, fixed them, lost them, but I kept the dream boxes in every story retold on paper. I count them every evening. Yesterday, there were 100. Today, my mother has gifted me her dream box. It smells like love scented, just like mom. I hold it against my chest so I will not lose them.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2022, the group has 7.830 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
