For those in the know, I am the picture of exaggeration: the anthill is the mountain, a drop of rain is a torrential downpour caused by a meteorological deity called Elijah. And they found themselves giving me the task of writing the obituary of Petrică, an insipid provincial teacher with no vocation. I wrote an eulogy, and since I write a sentence that runs to dozens of pages, you can imagine what a work it turned out to be. A spectacle. When I finished reading it, around nine in the evening, everyone wanted to be in Petre's place.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
