In front of the mourning crowd, the priest begins to read the words of the deceased Vasile: In this life, I have been many things, depending on who and how saw me. My mother always told me I was a good man. My father, that I was too lazy. Teachers appreciated me. Ana, my girlfriend, reproached me for not knowing how to kiss. Veta, the pious neighbor, told me I was the best lover. My friends loved my jokes. What am I really like? I'm dead. After mass, the priest went to his wife and told her: Veto, you knew Vasile well, didn't you?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
