My dear bereaved, I will read some lines sent by Fănel, a good friend of the deceased. My heart's ear pricked up when I heard that you had died. Now I blow into the void left behind by you to fill it with some love. My love, we loved each other for years in hotel rooms where we hid from your wife who didn't know you as pious Nicu, as I used to comfort you when you kneaded my body under the edge of your windy arms. You've got the wrong pocket. The dead woman's name is Mirela.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
