His screws had been loosened for three days, but neglectingly I had not tightened them. When it fell on my head, I needed stitches and a strange dialogue with the doctor on duty. How did it happen? I tell him, he insists. Are you sure no one hit you? Apart from God, no one. God operates through people, he says. It was the closet, not some wandered spirit. As you wish, I have to call the police. In case the spirit returns. Now I admit that I was left speechless. He prescribed me an anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant and a visit to Ikea.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
