The news spread faster than a fire in a dried up field. What kind of tradesman do you have to be in order to know what the others desire without being told? He used to sit at the back of the stall, gauging clients with an eye closed, then he would stretch out his arm, handing each one of them something, be it ointments for aching bones, pegs, books or watches. I could've really used some new shoes, but instead he handed me a pair of scissors. Here I sit now, door unlocked, cutting out my father's face from all of the photos.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
