Today we'll be doing a retrospection into the past. You're closing your eyes. Breathe in, stop, breathe out. Two minutes of this. You're eight years old. You are... I'm in the living room. And what are you doing? I'm painting a tree with the roundest boughs ever. I'll leave it by itself in the middle of the page, right on top of the horizon. What else is there on the table? Pages of portraits. The great classics of literature. Who needs there? I do. To perfect my drawing for when I'll be a famous artist. Tomorrow there will be no more voices going you'd better study, or you'll end up a starving artist. And I won't be someone whose dreams are shattered by strange fears.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
