She remembered that she had cast him out, but his legs did not hold more than a few steps. Then he stopped beyond the door in confusion, and it seemed his anger jumped in his entrails, as he felt a deadly weakness and the shrivelled walls were spinning in a deaf dance. Only his eyes with the enlarged pupils did not move from the uncovered thigh of the widow, and the silk of the stocking rolled slowly, then stretched up, will darken his nights like an obscene wart grown on the face of childhood, as a first sign of the death of innocence. He felt the change and started crying. He was almost ten years old.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
