The story begins on the 9th, at 9 p.m., at no. 9, on a quiet street which shelters houses and lives in the shade of linden trees. A lighted window, a shadow on the terrace, a person, two people, many people, pairs or individuals. The hustle and bustle heats up the asphalt which radiates music. At the stroke of midnight, the air was filled with sparks, happy birthday wishes and a blonde girl blowing out candles from her chest full of desire. At the corner of the street a horse is neighing, a cat is meowing, a young man is singing, and the moon is sighing. In the morning, among all the gifts, a note makes her smile: you already are who you want to become.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
