When we first moved in here, we felt like the happiest couple in the world. In the kitchen, where I would prepare every type of dish or dessert for her, in the bedroom, where I would put her in every position on every piece of furniture, in the living room, where we would watch every movie and count the elephants on the spider's web when we didn't want to vacuum. One day, I got home and everything had vanished: she, her shadow, and any impression that she had ever been there. I slammed the gate and the number eight turned on its side, staying like this for infinity.

Nadina Vișan / Edited by Silvia Petrescu, coordinator of the translations)Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days.
