There is a round stillness in the air, like a full moon. A silence from which grows, animated from now on, the body of the rejected baby. The head is shown first, with deep gray eyes, followed by arms and a frail body. Then nothing. He has no legs to run. He fed his mother's suffering with them. But he has heart. To forgive her. To love her. It beats rhythmically, heralding the time to come for them. He crawls into the eager arms, silently accepting the swing. An olive branch turns into a crown, on the bowed forehead. Below, a wolf howls.

George Rușescu
As a child, Jules Verne opened the sky to me and we went to our moon. Then the Teleencyclopedia came along and brought me worlds in black and white from beyond the sky, and I lived on the moons of other planets too. And adolescence came along with Star Trek, and I jumped from moon to moon, from life to life, from death to death. I live on many moons even now, but I no longer jump from one moon to another as I used to, because living here from one moon to another is too hard for my feet and makes it difficult for me to fly.

On Thursday I take my wing on my back, make a wish and it takes me to the unseen side. The other slice of the sky can be seen very nicely from there. On the weekend I call my friends over for a comet jam and we just talk through our thoughts, then we watch the earth rotate and when an ocean comes, we jump. Once we ran into a lake and we hurt our knees, but we laughed, because on earth thoughts were heavier and they dissolve into words. We need them so that we can hold each other's hands when we return to the other world.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2024, the group has 13,320 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, Luchian Abel, Monica Aldea, and Vlad Mușat. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
