Chinese Beauty

Credeam că voi scrie astăzi despre frumoasele românce şi zborul lor de la Beijing. Dar m-am înşelat iar. De altfel, cred că nici nu am mai fost impresionată până la lacrimi, ca atunci, în anii când Nadia a zburat "perfect". De atunci a trecut multă vreme şi fetele noastre au tot zburat frumos. Acum suntem doar pe locul trei. Ar trebui să scriu cât de harnici sunt chinezii? Cât de motivaţi sunt ei? Că au avut condiţii mai bune de antrenament? Dar nu ştiu nimic din toate astea. Ştiu doar ca ei privesc lumea altfel şi când îşi pun în cap să realizeze ceva, sunt extrem de serioşi, organizaţi şi eficienţi.

Am văzut comentariile mamei unei gimnaste românce, înainte de plecare, care spunea că pe fata ei o aşteaptă deja apartamentul promis de primărie (!). Că totul e aranjat. Nu am înţeles nimic. Doar m-am mirat. Am mai văzut comentariile de automulţumire ale echipei şi ale antrenorului care dădea vina pe condiţii ca "meşterul pe unele" când ceva nu e cum ar trebui să fie şi am auzit chiar comentariile tehnice ale Nadiei. Ah, Nadia, zeiţa noastră, care a venit de multe ori în România, dar noi nu ştim pentru ce. Poate pentru naşii ei, pentru o grădiniţa particulară, pentru câte un interviu pe ici pe colo, poate o donaţie... cine ştie... poate nu ştiu eu. Toţi ştim că şi-a făcut o viaţă în America. Şi nu e nimic de condamnat. E vorba de "libertatea individului" acum. Păi nu? Avem noi căderea să judecăm cumva? Nicidecum. Nu se prea simte însă că ar mai fi de-a noastră. Cum a sprijinit Nadia echipa voastră?, mă întreabă prietenii aici. Să îmi fie iertate remarcile, dar chinezii de peste ocean tot timpul "îi ajută" pe cei rămaşi acasă. Un spirit al familiei mari îi leagă. Unii îl numesc "naţionalism", un concept, anacronic, periculos care nu ar mai trebui să funcţioneze. Hm, aşa să fie oare? Am asistat în deschiderea JO la un lung convoi de state care, toate, vor să se afirme în lume. Dar o să mă opresc, căci nici acest subiect nu îmi este familiar şi nu e potrivit aici.

Aş vrea să mă opresc la tema frumosului. La frumoasele chineze care au "zburat" spre aur şi ce discutau băieţii Qian, Huafen, Wu şi colega lor, Gua Lee în ziua aceea în faţa televizorului. Discutau despre ce citiseră, pe nu ştiu ce blog, despre standarde şi cum europocentrismul a impus idealul său de frumuseţe, iar acum unele fete asiatice fac operaţii estetice ca să se conformeze acestor standarde.

Q.: Why do Chinese people think that European girls are more beautiful than Chinese girls? Why do Chinese girls always try to have plastic surgery to look like European girls? This is difficult to say but this trend is not unique to China. For years it was the same in Japan and Korea. It seems to be a fashion right now but sooner or later these girls will realize that they look much better than most European or American girls.
H.: I think that we need to launch a movement to educate the Chinese girls, to teach the Chinese girls that they are more beautiful than European girls, and to stop the Chinese girls from worshipping European girls.
W.: As you said before this is a fashion trend. There is no need to educate them. They are old and mature enough to find out about their own beauty. Just give them time.
Q.: Are European girls more beautiful than Chinese girls? I have been losing sleep over this problem lately. Why do Chinese people think that European girls are more beautiful than Chinese girls?
H.: I am Chinese myself, and I personally believe that Chinese girls are more beautiful than European girls.
W.: I think that beauty nowadays has too much of a Eurocentric focus. This is inevitable as European or European derivative countries dominate world politics. Yet, as China becomes a more influential force in the world economy, Chinese cultural values will seep more into the international stage. There is still a long way to go in order to shift the ideal of beauty from Eurocentric to a more Multiculturally balanced ideal. But I do believe we can get there.
L.: Personally, I adore the raven-haired Chinese beauty. Growing up watching quality Chinese historical dramas may have belief in me. But how long will it take before the "uneducated" Chinese girls realize that Chinese girls are actually beautiful and that Chinese girls should stop trying to have plastic surgery to look like European girls? China should launch some kind of education campaign to familiarize the poor uneducated Chinese girls with international standards of beauty. If the uneducated Chinese girls knew international standards of beauty, and the Chinese girls would stop having surgery to make their noses bigger.
W.: But what that does it means "uneducated"?
L.: Well, by "educated", I mean that the Chinese girls should have more knowledge, they should know, and be familiar with the international, generally accepted, standards of beauty around the world. Now, if a Chinese girl spoke several international languages such as French, Italian or Spanish and if the Chinese girl had travelled and lived in several countries around the world, then she is "educated" and she would know what the generally accepted international standards of beauty are.
Q.: I just want to remind them that health is the most important thing but not the face. And both Chinese girls and European girls are beautiful, just in different ways!"
