He was stepping impetuously on the stones as if they were scattered stairs. A cave was expanding to their top. It seemed like it was a tunnel, as a beam was discreetly showing itself deep down. He crawled, then the cave widened. He wandered for a long time. He stumbled among the rocks who grew larger, and the end did not show itself. He got frightened. There was no turning back. Although the walls widened, the road seemed to become rockier. And he prevailed in the end. Little he was, though it sat on the edge of the enormous window, smiling. However, a bird rushed in and tore him out from the rift of the cliff.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In June 2021, the group has 6.650 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
